Review:
Mirch is a movie of erotic genre that explores the feminine sexuality and boldly showcases the infidel side of the femme fatale. Though, it serves the spice it promises, it falls short of what could have been a completely chilly dish. Now when was the last time you saw a Bollywood movie dissecting female sexuality without being apologetic about it? Can’t remember, can you? Bollywood has mostly turned its back to the sensual woman as a protagonist. Typically, there have been just two ways in mainstream of indian cinema has viewed female eroticism. By and large, the Indian movie heroine is represented as a romantic, albeit asexual creature, who is terribly low on oestrogen. And in case she doesn’t have an hormonal imbalance, she is straight-jacketed into the whore and vamp category. The Sex And The City sisterhood has still to find a place in Indian cinema.

The ‘mirch’ bollywood movie is inspired by various sources including the Panchatantra and Boccaccio’s Decameron and Vinay Shukla stitches 4 tales of adultery with the sexy Raima and the seductive Konkona as the protagonists.

Arunoday Singh plays Maanav who makes a script and hunts for a film producer. But the potential film producer asks him to spice up the screenplay to make this work at the bollywood box office. Maanav, who turns the likes of Mr.Bergman and Mr.Bimal Roy, is compelled to resort to sex to appease the multiplex goers.

What follows are four mini stories replete with sex, lies and ‘Decieve’. Wheather the first two stories based on old times(ancient times) are adeptly created; the final two ones set on contemporary times fail to click.

Performance-wise, the actors, especially, Raima and Konkona, churn up some delightful renditions of women who pounce at illicitness with the shrewdness and inclination of a hungry hyena.

However, Arunoday could have been better presented. But despite the flaws, the film holds promise and is good in pieces. Overall, it is an average movie but can be commended for its bold texture and theme.

What can you say about this movie which has powerhouse performers like Konkona Sen Sharma and Boman Irani and an equally good director like Vinay Shukla, who being an actor himself knows the nuances of the profession. People who go by trailers and posters, wanting to watch Mirch only for the erotic content which has been promoted so far are in for a surprise. The director tries to raise the issue of gender equality through the sexual encounters that his female leads have in the film and therefore the story of Mirch too is framed that way.

However, the point where Vinay Shukla (filmmaker) fails miserably is that he shows a female being equal to her male counterpart only where sex is concerned. Yes, we know that cheating is in a man’s blood, but this Mirch movie shows women who very expertly cheat on their followers husbands and come out unscathed in the act.

The story combines four short films, the scripts of which have been penned by a budding filmmaker. This producer gets inspired from the fiction series of Panchatantra,to write stories which have sex and eroticism as their prime content. And it is through the sexual equality that Vinay Shukla has tried to deal with the issue of gender equality through the bollywood movie mirch ‘Mirch’.

Synopsys:
A struggling script writer (Arunoday Singh) is desperately seeking out a producer who will make a film on his script.Quite a difficult task, since his script is essentially four stories about erotic women who seek out their sexual fantasies, despite the binds of convention and traditional morality. Will the producer (Sushant Singh) be willing to bankroll the unconventional project which gets too close to real life?
